Major Storm Strikes Shreveport Bossier: See the Damage
Shreveport and Bossier got slammed by a major storm that blew threw the area around 1:30 Friday morning. Units from the Shreveport Police, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department, Shreveport Fire Department, among others are stretched to the limit with emergency calls all morning.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux declared a Weather Emergency condition for the city of Shreveport early Friday morning. As of this writing, Swepco is reporting more than 230,000 customers without power.
If you currently don't have power, here are some helpful tips from Ready.gov:
- Keep freezers and refrigerators closed.
- Use a generator, but ONLY outdoors and away from windows.
- Do not use a gas stove or oven to heat your home.
- Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.
- Have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or using power-dependent medical devices.
- Check with local officials about heating and cooling locations open near you.
